The main aims of this workshop include reviewing the most important recent developments in birational geometry, relating to the explicit methods and toric varieties and degenerations on the Constructions side, and Chow groups, derived categories and the Grothendieck ring of varieties on the Obstructions side, and subsequently initiating the discussion between experts, leading to further progress in these two neighboring fields.

This workshop will be held in conjunction with CRM’s Intensive Research Program Spaces of Analytical Functions: Approximation, Interpolation, Sampling. The Program will bring together leading experts in topical domains in Complex Analysis, Functional Analysis, and Approximation Theory working in approximation, interpolation and sampling problems in spaces of analytic functions and in their applications to spectral theory, Gabor analysis and random analytic functions. This field is an example of a fruitful interplay of complex analysis, abstract functional analysis and operator theory. The workshop Emergent Trends in Complex Function Theory will contain three advanced courses consisting of three one-hour lectures each, up to six one-hour invited talks, and contributed talks delivered, mainly, by promising young mathematicians.

The aim of this workshop is to allow young women doing research in numbers theory — graduate students, post docs, junior faculty — to initiate collaborations with confirmed researchers in the area. Addiitonally, senior faculy will have the orpportuynity to enlarge or strengthen their research network and gain new mentorship opportunities. A broad spectrum of topics in algebraic and analytic number theory and arithmetic geometry will be covered, including abelian varieties, K3 surfaces, Teichmüller curves, L-functions, modular curves, and arithmetic dynamics.

Thermodynamic formalism is an area of dynamical systems which originated in the 1960s and 1970s with the introduction of ideas of mathematical physics. In the past few years it has undergone something of a renaissance with applications to many different areas, including Riemannian geometry, microlocal analysis, and analytic number theory. This is an active area of research which has both intrinsic elegance and useful applications to neighbouring areas.

The school will focus on four main speakers, each giving a 4-hour mini-course. Their lectures will present a panoramic overview of some important developments in their field with the goal of enabling the participants to actively participate in the new directions of research emerging from these developments. In addition to the four main lecture series, a number of shorter presentations will explore recent developments in geometric group theory not covered by the main lectures. This is to broaden the scope of the workshop, and to encourage the participants to explore the boundaries of the subject.

Significant advances in the field of convex integration will be explained and discussed by world leading specialists involved in the subject’s resurgence. Convex integration originated with the Nash-Kuiper (1954/55) isometric embedding theorem and is central to Gromov’s h-principle (1986). The highly irregular (wrinkled) solutions which are a prominent feature have recently found application to other important contexts. Long standing conjectures such as that by Onsager on turbulence have been successfully resolved. Connexions have been established with several nonlinear partial differential equations including those for fluid and solid continuum mechanics. Numerical simulation of solutions has enhanced intuition and illustrated geometrical and physical properties. Challenging open problems however, remain and offer a rich potential for future research. These topics form the main themes of the workshop.

Spectral geometry, calculus of variations, and elliptic PDEs are a central part of modern analysis and geometric analysis. At the same time, these have important applications in other sciences, in particular mathematical physics. This workshop aims to bring together leading experts in these fields to discuss the main developments and open questions. The main research themes of the workshop include shape optimisation and sharp functional inequalities, Robin boundary value problems, Steklov eigenvalue problems, and properties of eigenfunctions and solutions to elliptic PDEs.

This workshop will emphasize the interplay of geometric invariant theory, derived categories, algebraic stacks, and motivic homotopy theory in addressing geometric, topological, and arithmetic aspects of the theory of moduli spaces in algebraic geometry. It will present the newest research techniques to graduate students and early career researchers and it aims to initiate new collaborations to enrich the mathematical enviroment in algebraic geometry.

This workshop will cover several aspects of modern group theory and group actions. Each day will be dedicated to a specific topic: Permutation groups, Linear groups and maximal subgroups, Computational methods in group theory, The Classification of the Finite Simple Groups and some applications, and Generation in finite and profinite groups and probabilistic methods in group theory.

This workshop aims to support new collaborations for women in number theory. Prior to the conference, the project leaders will design projects and provide background reading and references for their groups. Each participant will be assigned to a working group according to her research interests. During the workshop there will be some talks and career-development activities, but there will also be ample time dedicated to working in the working groups.
