Yan Soibelman

Dr. Yan Soibelman was born in Kiev (former Soviet Union). He graduated from Rostov State University. Since 1991 he has been visiting many research centers throughout the world. Those include Cambridge University, MIT, Harvard, Institute for Advanced Study (Princeton), MSRI (Berkeley), RIMS Kyoto University, IHES (France), Max-Planck Institute (Bonn), etc. Currently he is a professor of mathematics at Kansas State University (Manhattan). Soibelman's research includes quantum groups, non-commutative geometry, representation theory, symplectic geometry, partial differential equations, deformation theory, mathematical physics. He is the author of about 50 research papers and the monograph "Algebras of functions on quantum groups'' (joint with L. Korogodsky). His current activity among other things includes the joint work with Maxim Kontsevich on several projects in algebra and geometry, like mirror symmetry, deformation theory of operads and its relation to the topology of 3d manifolds, etc. Another joint project with Kontsevich is the book "Deformation theory" (in preparation).
